Mexico boys soccer was playing solid defense against Class 3 Helias Catholic in the first half on Thursday night at Chris Hotop Field in Mexico but allowed four second-half goals in a 6-1 loss to wrap up the regular season and extend the Bulldogs' season-high losing streak to nine games. Helias (9-13) led 2-0 at halftime, senior Sebastian Mena scored in the second half for Mexico and senior goalkeeper Emille Scanavino made 14 saves in his final home game as a Bulldog, but the Crusaders scored three times in the final 11 minutes.

Mexico (6-15-2), who is the No. 6 seed in the Class 2 District 4 tournament at Southern Boone in Ashland, plays North Central Missouri Conference rival and No. 3 seed Fulton (11-10) at 3 p.m. Saturday to open districts. The Bulldogs have lost 8-2 and 9-1 to the Hornets as part of an eight-game losing streak to Fulton.
