The deadline to reinstate the temporary voluntary suspension of operating licenses at the Mexico and Fulton hospitals was on Tuesday, Dec. 20. As first reported by the Mexico Ledger all Noble corporations and subsidiaries were sold on Dec. 7 to Clifford Sullivan.
"I have been told that DHSS approved the change of ownership of the hospitals to Clifford Sullivan, however the reinstatement of the hospital's operating license was denied by DHSS," said Missouri State Representative Kent Haden during a conversation with the Mexico Ledger this afternoon.
In September, Platinum Health was granted an extension for the Mexico hospital in order for windows to be repaired so the hospital could reopen. The Fulton Hospital was to have their hot water heater and HVAC system repaired.
"They didn't fix any of those issues in Mexico or Fulton," said Representative Haden. That's the reason DHSS did not approve an extension today. There are a lot of people disappointed. We spent a lot of time behind the scenes. There is a question as to whether Platinum Health ever had any intention to operate the hospitals."
Noble Health voluntarily suspended operations of the hospitals on March 25th. Platinum Team Management assumed control of the hospitals along with nine clinics from Noble Health on April 21.
According to Representative Haden to get a new hospital license the buildings would have to be inspected and get a certificate of need. He says the hospital building in Mexico may never pass a new inspection. "More than likely a new hospital building would have to be built. There is talk of that and we are not completely without hope.”
As for now both Mexico and Fulton are left without a hospital.
