The Mexico boys were in a giving mood soon after Christmas.
The Bulldogs defeated Class 6 Hazelwood West 79-61 in the first round of the US Bank Holiday Tournament in Rolla on Wednesday after 10 players scored and the team finished with 19 assists.
Mexico (10-1) also made a habit of shooting at the free-throw line and typically converted from there since the Bulldogs were 15-of-21 for a 71 percent clip.
DJ Long led the Bulldogs with 16 points and three others finished in double figures, including Kaden Benne with 12 points and Charlie Fisher and Jaydon Eldridge each with 11 points. PJ Perkins followed with nine points and Donye Nunnelly had eight points.
Class 4 No. 9 Mexico plays Class 5 Hillcrest (5-4) at 4 p.m. today after the Hornets defeated RUSH 65-42 in their first round game on Wednesday.
