The City of Mexico’s annual Fall Cleanup is just around the corner.

According to a news release issued by city officials, the following guidelines will be strictly enforced in order for certain items to be picked up during the 2026 Fall Cleanup.

Items must be properly bagged, boxed, taped or bundled and shall not exceed 5 feet in length, 20 inches in diameter and not exceed more than 50 pounds with a maximum of four bundles.

Piles of loose items and small home project construction debris will not be picked up unless the items are bagged, boxed or bundled. If an item is not a bulky item such as couches, cushions, chairs, televisions, bed mattresses, tables and other furnishings it must be packaged for easy handling by Dayne’s Waste Disposal, Inc. work crews. Loose items that are scattered, stacked or piled will not be picked up.

Mexico’s annual Fall Cleanup will be held on Saturdays during the month of October. For current residential refuse customers whose regular pickup day is Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday, cleanup day will be Saturday. For customers whose regular trash pickup day is Monday or Thursday, cleanup day will be Oct. 10.

  • All items must be placed at the curb no earlier than the night before or by 6 a.m. on the assigned days. To avoid a nuisance, do not place out any earlier.
  • Place items to be picked up at the curb.
  • Small items must be placed in trash cans, trash bags, sturdy boxes or other containers no larger than a garbage can. Small, loose items will not be picked up.

The following items will not be picked up during Fall Cleanup:

  • Tires and petroleum products
  • Any type of insecticides, pesticides, poisons, cleaners, disinfectants, polishes, sharp needles or blood products
  • Antifreeze, transmission/power steering fluids, brake fluids, enamel/oil based paints and thinners/stains/finishes

The following items are accepted at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility located at 201 S. Morris Street:

  • Any type of insecticides, pesticides, poisons, cleaners, disinfectants, polishes, antifreeze, transmission/power steering fluids, brake fluids, enamel/oil based paints and thinners/stains/finishes.

This is a free drop-off service by appointment only. Appointments may be scheduled on the second and fourth Wednesday from April through October from noon to 3:00 p.m. and the second Wednesday from November through March. To schedule an appointment, call 573-581-2100 ext. 315.

Appliance pickup will be provided for city residents during the Fall Cleanup. Each household will be allowed two appliances. If an appliance contains a compressor and/or refrigerant, the compressors and refrigerant must be removed from the appliance by a state-certified technician and properly tagged. Residents may contact local heating and cooling dealers for cost and scheduling information. If the appliance is not tagged and the compressor removed, the appliance will not be picked up. If the tag cannot be read, the appliance will not be picked up, so residents are asked to place the tag in a protected covering to prevent weather damage.

Brush, limbs, leaves and grass clippings are not to be mixed with normal household waste. Citizens may take these items to the Brush Yard at 104 South Kentucky (on the back side of the Community Maintenance Building and accessed only from South Kentucky).

Summer Brush Yard hours are Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. as well as Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Winter Brush Yard hours begin Nov. 4, hours are Wednesday from 11a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Residents are to remove any bags used to transport the materials. No commercial waste, stumps, or non-conforming material will be accepted.
