Mexico FFA inaugural truck and tractor pull Saturday

For one loud, diesel-fueled fall night, the 4-H fairgrounds is crawling with folks who have traveled far and wide to our community for the Mexico Young Farmers truck and tractor pull.

The annual event, to be held Aug. 30, is known for attracting crowds of an estimated 2,500 people from at least eight states and supports the Mexico Young Farmers and Audrain County Cattleman’s Association’s scholarship funds as well as the Mexico FFA.

This year will mark the 20th annual Mexico Young Farmers truck and tractor pull. Their success in previous years inspired them to approach the Mexico FFA Chapter with the idea of adding a spring event.

With Mexico Young Farmers there to help them along the way, the local FFA chapter prepares to host their first ever truck and tractor pull this Saturday. All proceeds will go to the Mexico FFA Chapter.

Kyle Roth, a Young Farmers member, said he is most excited to watch FFA have a good first truck and tractor pull.

“They deserve it, they’ve put a lot of work into this,” he said.

And while they may be just a few days away, the work is far from over as the truck and tractor pull is an all-day affair. Gates will open at 10 a.m. and Mexico FFA will start serving food at noon.

“They’re having hot dogs, hamburgers, pulled pork, pulled pork nachos and regular nachos,” said Roth.

There will be a test and tune to follow at 1 p.m. during which time, all trucks and tractors will have the opportunity to make a pass.
