The Mexico girls showed a good defensive effort on Monday night.
Head coach Makenzie Mudd said as much after a 52-41 loss at Boonville, who received votes in the first Class 4 state poll, on Monday.
“Boonville is a fast, good shooting team,” Mudd said. “We did a good job overall of slowing the game down a little and preventing them from getting a lot of fastbreak opportunities.”
Boonville (6-2) was led by a double-double from Zoe Davis at 20 points and 12 rebounds and then had 11 points from Effie Morris.
Mudd said Mexico (4-7) did well creating offensive chances for its players and was led by Jo Thurman’s 10 points and four assists and also had Grace Hudson score nine points and Claire Hudson finish with eight points and seven rebounds.
The Lady Bulldogs (2-1 NCMC) have Christmas break but then encounter North Central Missouri Conference and district foe Fulton (1-5, 1-2 NCMC) at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 2 at home. Mexico defeated Fulton once already this season 47-29 in the Montgomery County tournament.
