A Mexico man died in a three-vehicle crash Wednesday, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The man, 35, died on the scene and the other two drivers sustained moderate injuries, the crash report stated. The crash occurred at 6:45 a.m. on Missouri Highway 22 near Route E.

According to the crash report, a witness said the Mexico man, who was driving a 2010 Ford Escape, was attempting to pass multiple vehicles while traveling westbound on Highway 22 when he struck a 2019 Kenworth Conventional, driven by a 46-year-old Fulton man traveling eastbound head-on.

The driver of the Ford Escape was ejected from the vehicle and his vehicle came to rest partially in the eastbound lane and on the shoulder. The Kenworth Conventional traveled off the right side of the road and caught on fire.

A third driver, a Paris man who was also traveling westbound in a 2023 Freightliner Conventional, drove off the left side of the road and overturned, coming to rest on its top.

The Mexico man was pronounced dead at 7:37 a.m. The Fulton man refused medical treatment and the Paris man was transported by ambulance to University Hospital.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol no longer releases the names of people involved in crashes.
