A Mexico man received various charges after he was stopped by an Audrain County Sheriff’s Office deputy on Feb. 19 in the Walmart parking lot, a sheriff’s office news release stated.

Charles B. Henton, 34, was arrested and charged with first degree drug trafficking, unlawful use of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence and operating a motor vehicle upon a highway without a valid license, the last charge of which is a misdemeanor. The rest of the charges are felonies.

An Audrain County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit deputy attempted to stop Henton’s vehicle in the early hours Feb.19 along US 54 near Clark Street after the deputy saw a violation, the release stated. The vehicle continued to travel eastbound (north) onto the off ramp to Clark Street, and while doing so, the deputy saw the driver throw an item from the window of the vehicle.

Henton pulled into the Walmart parking lot and was detained. The deputy found that Henton allegedly threw a half pound of Fentanyl from his vehicle. The release stated a further search of the car yielded a pistol, several magazines and ammunition.

Henton was arrested and booked into the Audrain County Jail, where he remains held without bond after the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Honorable Melissa Young.
