Mexico native John C. Hagan, III, MD, an honors graduate of St. Brendan School and Mexico High School, was awarded the Kansas City Medical Society (KCMS) Lifetime Achievement Award in ceremonies Nov. 2. Previously he received Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Missouri Society of Eye Physicians & Surgeons (MOSEPS) and Kansas City Society of Ophthalmology. Dr. Hagan earned his MD degree with honors at Loyola University. He served in the USAF as Captain during the VietNam Era. He trained in ophthalmic surgery at Emory University. Dr Hagan has published over 250 medical papers, edited two medical textbooks, and designed surgical instruments. He is the editor of Missouri Medicine and past editor of Kansas City medical journals. He has served as President of Clay-Platte, KCMS, MOSEPS and as Chair Department of Surgery North Kansas City Hospital. In 2012, he received the Hall of Fame Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology State Affairs. Dr. Hagan is married to the former Rebecca Jane Chapman, also a MHS and MU honors graduate in physical therapy. The Hagans have two daughters Carol A. Hagan, PhD and Catherine E. Hagan, PhD, DVM and two grandsons.
