Avin Hernandez was a key part of Missouri Military Academy defense during its run to the Class 1 boys soccer state championship game this season.
The Mexico native plans to join a new team as he signed to play soccer for NCAA Division II Drury University in Springfield during a Thursday ceremony in Barnard Hall at Missouri Military Academy in Mexico. Hernandez was an all-state, all-district and regional defensive player of the year that led a Colonels team that allowed a nine-year low goals against average of 1.4. This season, MMA played in its first soccer state championship game after advancing to its first ever state Final Four since 1992. Hernandez earned two all-state honors and three all-district awards in his career as the Colonels won 39 games and averaged under two goals allowed in each of the previous three seasons.
