Mexico Public Safety Department officials remind people to exercise caution around roadways next week as school begins.
Students in Mexico Public Schools return to class on Wednesday.
A Mexico Public Safety Department news release asked motorists to plan ahead and take their time as they travel about town.
“There will be increased traffic, especially in the areas of schools, and that includes vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians,” the news release stated.
Drivers are reminded that the speed limit around schools is 20 miles per hour and they need to yield to pedestrians who are entering or already in a marked cross walk. Drivers are also reminded to be careful around school buses, and when a bus has its lights on and stop arm out, vehicles are to stop until the stop arm is pulled back in. Additionally, pedestrians are reminded to use the sidewalk when possible, watch for vehicles and be aware that drivers may not see people walking in the roadway.
“MPSD will be patrolling the areas around all the schools and we hope everyone has a safe and happy new school year,” the release stated.
