Mexico took a two-set advantage on Wednesday at North Callaway but then had to fight hard for the victory.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated North Callaway for the sixth straight time, winning 3-1 (25-15, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-22). Mexico collected six services aces but dropped its first set against the Ladybirds since 2015.

Claire Isgrig led Mexico (3-1) with six aces, and Addison Paden followed with four aces. Isgrig picked up half of her aces during a 6-0 run in the second set that earned Mexico an 18-15 lead at the time.

North Callaway (2-3) hadn't taken a set against the Lady Bulldogs in its previous five meetings but relied on front row players like Bailey Hill and Alex Craighead. Hill had six kills and four blocks, Craighead had three blocks, Avis Endres finished with five kills and Jaden Smithee had 15 assists.

Mexico (2-0 NCMC) hosts North Central Missouri Conference foe Marshall (1-3, 0-2 NCMC), with a night of freshman, JV and varsity starting at 5 p.m. Thursday. North Callaway plays in the Melissa Hoerber Invitational Tournament on Saturday in Fulton.
