Posted

In the second meeting this season between Class 4 Mexico and Class 3 No. 7 North Callaway, it resembled a district matchup.

Mexico defeated North Callaway 2-1 in the opening game of the Southern Boone Classic tournament pool being played in Mexico in a pitcher's duel with a combined nine hits. Drew DeMint pitched seven innings for Mexico (16-10) with five hits, four strikeouts, two walks and one earned run while Carter Moore pitched a complete six innings for North Callaway (16-3) with four hits, four walks, three strikeouts, and no earned runs. Moore had North Callaway's RBI in the first inning, and CJ Cunningham went 2-for-3. Brady Fox and Sam Ryan each had one RBI for Mexico.

Mexico had beaten North Callaway earlier this season in Kingdom City 15-2 in five innings partly due to a season-high seven North Callaway errors.

Mexico faces North Central Missouri Conference foe and Class 4 No. 5 Fulton (16-4) at noon Friday and then conference and district foe and Class 4 No. 2 Moberly (23-4) at 7:30 p.m. later in the day. North Callaway faces Moberly at 2:30 p.m. Friday and then Fulton right after at around 5 p.m.
