After more than 15 years leading the Freedom Center of Missouri, attorney Dave Roland will become Director of Allied Litigation for the Goldwater Institute—one of the nation’s leading free-market public policy research and litigation organizations—effective Jan. 12, 2026, according to a news release.
Since founding the Freedom Center in 2010, Roland has been one of the state's most prominent constitutional attorneys, fighting numerous high-profile cases focused on securing individual liberty and transparent, accountable, constitutionally limited government for Missouri's citizens.
"It has been a tremendous honor to serve this state's citizens through my work at the Freedom
Center," Roland said in the release. "Joining the Goldwater Institute will allow me to marshal even more resources as well as that organization's expertise to pursue the same kinds of cases in other states as well as here in Missouri."
In his 15 years at the Freedom Center, Roland has achieved several key legal victories advancing liberty in Missouri. In 2016, he represented two political candidates challenging the outcome of elections in St. Louis, proving legal violations that persuaded the courts to throw out the result and order special elections. Roland's efforts to obtain evidence for those cases resulted in a landmark Missouri Supreme Court decision confirming that the Sunshine Law gives citizens access to certain election-related public records. Roland also won a series of victories all over the state ensuring that law enforcement agencies, including multi-jurisdictional drug task forces, must be transparent and accountable to the public.
In 2024, the Missouri Press Association honored Roland with a Sunshine Hero award, and in 2025 Missouri Lawyers Media named him one of the state's most influential appellate attorneys.
Founded in 1988 and headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, the Goldwater Institute is dedicated to advancing the principles of limited government, economic freedom, and individual liberty. Goldwater uses public interest litigation to enforce individual rights and constraints on government power guaranteed by our state and federal constitutions. In his new role with Goldwater, Roland will work with like-minded organizations all over the country on strategic litigation that promotes these principles.
