Missouri Military Academy will welcome current families, alumni, friends, and families of prospective cadets during Spring Family Weekend, April 21 through 23.
The weekend will include the Maroon & Gold Casino Night, the Academy’s most significant fundraiser of the year.
In the past held as a gala, Maroon & Gold 2023 will feature a Roaring ’20s Casino Night theme. Guests will enjoy blackjack, roulette, craps, poker, and War card games — plus a money wheel game and a Let it Ride game. Over the years, Maroon & Gold has raised more than $1 million to support MMA cadets. All funds raised support MMA academic, athletic, cadet life and leadership programs, which help provide an optimal experience for cadets to reach their full potential. Maroon & Gold also includes an online auction, open to the public. Information on attending the event and participating in the online auction are available on the Academy’s website at www.MissouriMilitaryAcademy.com.
During Spring Family Weekend, current families will meet with MMA faculty and company leadership advisors (CLAs) to discuss cadets’ progress, opportunities, and achievements. Prospective families will participate in an open house on Saturday morning and view a military review by the corps of cadets.
MMA’s spring acting class and backstage theatre production class will present "The Sandlot," a one-act play, on Thursday, April 20 at 7 p.m. in the Stribling Black Box Theatre at the Presser Arts Center, 900 S. Jefferson Street in Mexico, Missouri. The MMA production is directed by Conya Thompson, MMA acting and stagecraft instructor, who holds a BFA in theater from Culver-Stockton College and an MFA in costume design from Western Illinois University.
The weekend will also include the Epple Memorial Art Show on display in Barnard Hall, featuring the artwork of MMA middle school and high school cadets. This annual art show honors Drs. Robert and Kathryn Epple, prominent physicians in Mexico during the 1950s and 1960s, and their family. A 1943 graduate of MMA, Robert Epple served as the MMA physician for 13 years.
The Festival of the Arts will be held on Friday night at Presser Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. and feature music by MMA Band, Choir and Bagpipes.
