A vehicle fire Tuesday caused serious damage to the vehicle and its contents.

There were no injuries reported, according to a news release issued by the Mexico Public Safety Department.

At approximately 11:55 p.m., MPSD responded to a vehicle fire in the 3400 block of South Clark. Responding officers found a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer with flames coming through the passenger compartment and spreading toward the engine compartment.

The owner of the vehicle told officers that she had been smelling a “hot smell” in the vehicle for the past several days. On the day of the incident, she had been driving from Fulton to Paris and saw smoke inside the vehicle when she reached Mexico. The flames appeared under the dashboard on the passenger side first.

The owner was able to pull over and get herself and her pets out of the vehicle before the flames grew.

The fire was extinguished, but the vehicle and its contents sustained serious fire damage.
