Some fires happened Friday that were caused by fireworks, according to a news release from the Mexico Public Safety Department.
On Friday, at 3:30 p.m., MPSD personnel responded to a grass fire in the 300 block of Bolivar, and then a second blaze was a tree fire in RS Green Park just before 11:30 p.m. Both fires were extinguished before any personal property was damaged, the release stated.
On Saturday, MPSD personnel responded to the 500 block of South Olive regarding a vehicle being damaged by juveniles shooting fireworks during the previous overnight hours. The damage was minimal. MPSD personnel responded to about 90 incidents of fireworks being discharged over the two-week period leading up to and including the Fourth of July weekend, the release stated. Around half of those occurred in about a four-hour time period on the Fourth.
“There were significantly fewer fireworks discharged at the public events than in years past,” the release stated. “Organizers appreciate the efforts of responsible attendees and hope everyone enjoyed the displays. MPSD detained three juveniles for fireworks just outside one of the events. There were no firework related injuries reported to emergency services.”
