MPSD responds to house fire

Posted

On Friday, Jan 10, at approximately 11:44 a.m., an off-duty Mexico Public Safety firefighter saw smoke coming from inside a house in the 1200 block of Hendricks. Upon arrival of additional personnel and equipment, the fire was discovered in the basement. It was contained and extinguished in that area with the basement suffering moderate fire damage and the rest of the home suffering moderate smoke damage. The resident was not home at the time of the fire but there were numerous dogs inside.

MPSD was able to rescue three dogs and they were temporarily turned over to Mexico Animal Control. Four dogs died as a result of the fire. Investigation indicates the fire started in an area where there were numerous small appliances and other electrical devices plugged into one power strip with the power strip and cords covered by other personal items.
