A fire Friday night caused significant damage to an attic and minor smoke damage to a home in Mexico.

There were no injuries, and the cause of the fire appeared to be an overloaded circuit caused by multiple space heaters running at the same time, according to a news release from the Mexico Public Safety Department.

At approximately 11:35 p.m., MPSD responded to a house fire in the 500 block of Robinson Street. The resident reported being awakened by smoke detectors and then found fire burning through the ceiling. Responding officers located a fire in the attic.

The fire was extinguished and the attic sustained significant fire damage. The rest of the home had minor smoke damage.
