Interstate 70 experienced a lot of congestion on the evening of Dec. 17 due to multiple accidents in both the eastbound and westbound lanes.
At 4:33 p.m. at mile-marker 137.9 at Route J. and Millersburg a multi-vehicle accident backed up traffic in the eastbound lanes.
At 5:15 p.m. an additional crash occurred at westbound mile-marker 143.2. A 58-year-old Williamsburg man was traveling westbound when the vehicle in front of him, a 2015 Chevrolet 2500, slowed for traffic. The driver of the 2009 Jeep Compass sustained moderate injuries after striking the rear of the Chevrolet and was transported to University Hospital by Callaway County EMS. The Jeep was a total loss. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 56-year-old man from Auxvasse, reported no injuries and despite extensive damage to his vehicle, drove away from the scene.
