Nathan Kale Mackey Sept. 19, 1954 – Jan. 27, 2024

Nathan Kale Mackey, 69, passed away on Jan. 27, 2024, at his home in Auxvasse, surrounded by family. Nathan was born on Sept. 19, 1954, in Mexico, the son of Noah James and Wanda Lou (Null) Mackey. On Dec. 8, 1978, he married Kem Renee Mary Hunt.

Nathan was a 1973 graduate of R1 North Callaway High School. He worked at AP Green Refractories in Mexico, from 1973 till the closing of the plant. During those years there were times of layoffs and he worked various jobs but spent a lot of time working at Emery Sapp & Sons Construction Company in Columbia. After the plant closed for good, he went to work at GA Propane in Kingdom City, from 2007 until he retired in 2019. Nathan had many skills outside his employment including plumbing, backhoe work, carpentry, and snow removal. He had many hobbies like fishing, gardening, and traveling. Nathan was often seen riding his golf cart around the family farm, and he may have had one of the grandkids or one of the many kids Kem babysat, who spent much time in their home over the years and became like family, with him. Spending time with all those children, young and old alike, was probably his favorite thing to do, whether it was riding the golf cart, fishing, going to a ball game, dance recitals, graduations, weddings, or birthday parties. They all loved their “Nae Nae”.

Survivors include his wife, Kem; his children Anthony Kayne (Stephanie) Mackey of Highland, Ill.; Natashia Lynn Mackey of Lebanon; Bridget Collette Nelson of Columbia; four grandchildren, Gunnar, Riley, Kylee and Kyleed; one sister Deborah (Roger) Atkinson; three brothers Darron Bruce, Monty James, Michael Eugene (Jonie) Mackey all of Auxvasse, as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Nathan was preceded in death by his mother and father, and one nephew, Todd Nicholas Atkinson.

A celebration of life will be held in the Spring. Memorial donations may be made to your favorite charities.
