North Callaway girls’ seniors lead to 47-45 win at Louisiana
The seniors made sure the North Callaway girls’ winning streak kept going on Thursday night.
The Ladybirds won their fourth straight game and are 3-0 in Eastern Missouri Conference play after a 47-45 win at Louisiana (3-4, 2-1 EMO), holding off a fourth-quarter comeback that saw the Lady Bulldogs outscore North Callaway 11-8 in the quarter. To help seal the game, North Callaway was 16-for-18 from the free throw line.
Senior Riley Blevins led the effort at the line by going 5-for-5 and finishing with eight points and four assists. Her fellow senior Abrielle Burgher led the Ladybirds with 13 points and three 3-pointers, Natalie Shryock had 11 points and two 3-pointers, and Lakyn Hartley had eight points and six rebounds.
North Callaway plays Paris (3-3) at 10 a.m. today in the Gary Filbert Classic in Mexico.
Thunderbirds ramp up defense to defeat Louisiana 60-40
The three-game losing streak is over for the North Callaway boys after putting three good defensive quarters together on Thursday.
The Thunderbirds defeated Eastern Missouri Conference foe Louisiana 60-40 after holding the Bulldogs (2-6, 0-3 EMO) in Louisiana to single digits in the second and third quarters and 10 in the fourth after allowing 15 in the first.
“From the second quarter, we played defense like I want them to play defense all the time,” head coach Matt Miller said.
Sam Pezold led North Callaway (2-4, 2-1 EMO) with 24 points, seven steals, five 3-pointers and five rebounds, Isiah Craighead followed with 19 points, five rebounds and three steals, and Paul Russell had eight points and three assists.
North Callaway faces Paris (2-4) at 11:30 a.m. today at the Gary Filbert Classic in Mexico.
