New Edward Jones office opens downtown

The city of Mexico has a new Edward Jones Investments office now open just off the Square on Love Street.

Kevin Duncan opened the office last Thursday, June 22, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony put on by the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce. Duncan was joined by his wife Krista and Chamber President Todd Geeson and office administrator Joyce Williams.

Geeson, who is a limited partner in the firm, helped get Duncan going in his career by offering him a spot in his office until he established himself. Duncan said he will be forever grateful to Geeson.

“Todd was gracious enough to open up his office to me to have a desk and a place to sit when I first joined Edward Jones,” Duncan said. “He didn’t have to do that; that was just his choice. He could have declined and I’m thankful that he didn’t.”

Duncan said Williams will have a big role in keeping the office running including keeping him on the right path.

“She is the heart and soul of the office and keeps everything rolling and flowing,” Duncan said. “She keeps me in line.”

Duncan also thanked his wife for her help in guiding him.

“I would like to thank her and all she’s done over the years supporting me in my crazy dreams and ideas that I always bring to her,” Duncan said. “She’s always open and listens and I think we make a pretty good team.”

Duncan also noted the historical ties the firm Edward Jones has with the city of Mexico. Edward Jones was founded in 1922 in St. Louis and the first office opened outside of St. Louis in 1957 by Zeke McIntyre. McIntyre is such a legend that Edward Jones annually awards the Zeke McIntyre Pioneer Award.

“Edward Jones has a deep, deep history here in Mexico,” Duncan said. “His office was on the second floor of where Stubblefield furniture is now. That was a piece of history I didn’t know.”

Duncan also noted the roots he and Williams both share with Mexico. He said both were born and raised here.

“We both chose to make Mexico our permanent home and we’ll continue to do so in the future so you can always find us here,” Duncan said.
