Pezold's Journey to Become All-Time Leading Scorer

North Callaway boys basketball head coach Matt Miller said that much was clear from last Wednesday’s college signing ceremony, when the program’s all-time leading scorer signed his letter of intent to play for NAIA school William Woods University in Fulton.

“The thing that sets Sam apart from many other athletes is that a lot of athletes wait around for a coach or somebody to create opportunities to get better,” Miller said. “Sam is going to create his own opportunities to get better. For example, countless times over the past four years, he has told me he's going to come in at 7:00 a.m. the next morning if I could just make sure the ball rack was unlocked.”

Pezold has spent countless hours in the gym like this on his way to etching his name in the school record book with his all-time best career marks of 1,395 points, 253 steals and 209 3-pointers along with the all-time best single-season steals record of 95 this past season.

William Woods finished 12-16 in its previous season and has brought in some Mid-Missouri talent before like Nate Schwartze from Father Tolton and it has a verbal commitment from Van-Far all-state player Nikos Connaway. Miller said he is excited that Pezold will be able to further his education while staying close to home.

“He is truly one of the best teammates to ever come through our program, which speaks to what kind of leader and person he is,” Miller said. “William Woods is not just getting a basketball player. They are getting a well-rounded, amazing young man.”
