North Callaway softball took the next step this season.

The Ladybirds finished 17-16 for their first winning season in five years and had several earn postseason awards. Sophomore Kymorie Myers was named to the first team all-Eastern Missouri Conference, all-district team in Class 2 District 3 and all-region team, senior Corynne Miller to the second-team on all-conference and all-district, freshman Megan Schmidt to second team all-conference and all-district, and sophomore Ella Slater to first team all-district and all-region.

Head coach Mariah McKee said the schedule was tougher for North Callaway this season as the Ladybirds played 14 teams in a higher class and their conference is always challenging with state-ranked Bowling Green winning this season after going undefeated in EMO play.

Anytime we can get girls recognized is a big deal,” McKee said. “We had a really tough schedule this year and these girls plus the rest of them rose to the occasion and put forth the effort.”

Myers displayed a lot of power and a knack for driving in runs from the No. 3 hole as she set the school’s single-season RBI record at 46. She finished with a slash line of a .442 batting average, .538 on-base percentage and .800 slugging percentage; had 37 runs, 19 walks, four home runs, six triples and 10 doubles; and recorded four assists from the outfield.

Slater slotted in behind her in the cleanup spot, finishing with a slash line of .398/.429/.551, 35 RBI, 22 runs, two home runs, nine RBI and three outfield assists.

Schmidt was a threat at the plate and in the circle as she finished with a slash line of .505/.544/.693, 41 runs, 26 RBI, 13 doubles and three triples as a batter. As a pitcher, Schmidt had a 4.00 ERA, 85 strikeouts, 68 hits and 23 walks in 56 innings.

Miller served as a leader on the team along with fellow senior Brianna Prosser and worried opponents from the leadoff spot before she reached base and when she inevitably became a baserunner. She finished with a slash line of .381/.492/.505, 37 runs, 21 walks, 10 stolen bases, 15 RBI, six doubles and three triples at the plate and with eight assists in the outfield.

“I am so proud of these girls,” McKee said. “They have worked really hard all season. These stats just go to show the amount of effort, time and sacrifice they have made for the last five months. I could say that about all the girls on our team.”
