North Callaway volleyball growing throughout roster

Plenty has happened over four years for North Callaway volleyball.

Head coach Andrew Klein is going into his fourth year as the head coach, meaning his first senior class he has led all four years will be suiting up for the Ladybirds this season. The program has improved its winning percentage over that time and earned its first double-digit victory seasons over the past two years.

“For a lot of those girls, it will be their senior year and a lot of them have played as a freshman for me on varsity,” Klein said. “We have a lot to prove this year. We worked really hard to get to this point where we trust each other.”

Klein said the team continues to build chemistry to incorporate the younger kids into the fold and also some transfers from Fulton. He said there were a couple girls missing for the team’s camp early last week due to summer commitments like vacation, but the group is full with more than 20 on the roster.

That group has shown up during the summer with about all of them heading down to Cape Girardeau a couple weeks ago for scrimmages, Klein said. North Callaway has also played some scrimmages in Hallsville and participated in a joint practice with reigning district champion Fulton during that program’s coaching transition.

“Last week, we went to Cape Girardeau,” Klein said. “Our JV went 3-2 and played some pretty good competition. They had over 80 teams there from Illinois, Arkansas and Missouri so it’s a pretty big tournament there. Our varsity went 2-4. We saw some people we don’t usually see.”
