North Callaway wins district matchup in Centralia 6-2

The Class 3 District 7 wins leaders faced each other on Tuesday in Centralia.

No. 7 North Callaway beat Centralia 6-2 after holding the Panthers to six hits with three pitchers. The Thunderbirds (16-2) also had six hits but scored in all but two innings while taking advantage of four stolen bases and three Centralia errors.

Caleb Sheets scored two runs and stole two bases for North Callaway, Tucker Sheets, CJ Cunningham and Justice Moore (also hit his first career varsity double) each had one RBI, and Cody Kemp recorded six putouts and three assists at second base. Carter Moore, Tucker Sheets and Keaton Bell also scatterered seven walks and one earned run.

Henry Bohlmeyer went 2-for-2 with one walk for Centralia (15-11), Luke Waltemate was 1-for-2 with two walks, Cole Higginson had one RBI. Anthony Ford struck out five and allowed three earned runs in 4 1/3 innings pitched, and Chase Kempker allowed one earned run on two hits in 2 2/3 innings.

North Callaway opens the Southern Boone Classic against Mexico (15-10) on Mexico's field at 4 p.m. Thursday while Centralia plays at Class 4 No. 9 Blair Oaks (14-12) at 5 p.m. Friday.
