Paris boys win conference opener after loss at North Shelby
The Paris boys were back in the overall win column and the conference one as well.
The Coyotes lost 57-35 at North Shelby on Monday but then won 58-39 at Lewis and Clark Conference foe Marceline on Tuesday. The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for the Coyotes.
Paris (2-4, 1-0 L&C) didn’t score double-digits in a quarter against North Shelby until the third quarter but did so in the first quarter at Marceline (0-5, 0-1 L&C), outscoring the Tigers 17-6. The Coyotes held Marceline to a 24.6 shooting percentage and outrebounded on the defensive glass 35-17. Colton Kendrick led with 19 points and 10 rebounds (all defensive), Andre Miller had 12 points, Evin Reichmann finished with 10 points, nine rebounds and four steals, and Luke Ensor had 10 points and four assists.
Against North Shelby (2-3), Paris trailed 23-8 after the first quarter and fell behind thanks to being outscored 20-9 in points off turnovers and 18-0 in transition points. Kendrick, Reichmann and Brad Skinner each led the Coyotes with eight points, with Reichmann pulling down six rebounds.
Lady Coyotes lose tight games at North Shelby, Marceline
After winning a pair of close games in the Monroe City tournament, the Paris girls dropped a couple.
The Lady Coyotes lost 46-43 at North Shelby in overtime after coming back from down six points heading into the fourth quarter and then dropped their Lewis and Clark Conference opener 45-40 at Marceline on Tuesday.
Paris (3-3, 0-1 L&C) was outscored 15-8 in points off turnovers but outscored North Shelby (4-2) 10-4 in the fourth quarter. Reese Sutton led with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Melanie Moore had 10 points, 10 deflections, four steals and four assists.
The Lady Coyotes fought from behind after Marceline (2-2, 1-0 L&C) won the first quarter 13-4 and were down six points heading into the fourth quarter. They couldn’t do enough to at least force overtime again as they finished 6-for-14 at the free-throw line while Marceline was 11-for-14 from the line. Moore led Paris with 17 points, five rebounds and two steals and Sutton followed with eight points and nine rebounds.
