Sutton, Ashenfelter led Paris to 12-4 win vs Schuyler County
Paris has two Lewis and Clark Conference wins to its credit this week before its home tournament today.
The Lady Coyotes won at Scotland County on Tuesday before winning 12-4 on Thursday at home against Schuyler County (3-11, 1-5 L&C). Reese Sutton and Emma Ashenfelter each had four RBI to lead the offense.
Paris (7-7, 3-2 L&C) scored in every inning except the sixth inning and seventh inning — bottom half wasn’t played. Sutton hit a two-RBI home run in the first inning, and Ashenfelter hit a two-RBI double in the second inning before her sister Kennedy Ashenfelter added a RBI single for the 5-1 lead.
Sutton had the home run and a triple to finish 2-for-4 while Emma Ashenfelter went 3-for-4. Knightlee Mitten and Sophia Crusha each finished 2-for-4, and Maura Crusha had two RBI.
Kennedy Ashenfelter pitched seven innings with 10 strikeouts, five hits, three earned runs and two walks.
Paris opens its home tournament today at 10:30 a.m. on Field 1 against district foe North Shelby (8-4-2), who it lost to 14-4 earlier this season.
Lady Coyotes come back for 9-6 conference, district win at Scotland County
Paris softball continued to fight for an important victory on Tuesday night and was successful.
The Lady Coyotes defeated Lewis and Clark Conference and district foe Scotland County (1-10, 0-5 L&C) 9-6 after scoring six runs in the seventh inning, giving them its second conference and district victory of the season. Knightlee Mitten finished 4-for-5 with a triple and two RBI to lead the offense, hitting safely twice in the seventh inning.
Reese Sutton, Emma Ashenfelter and Maura Crusha each came up with their RBI in the seventh inning as well. Sutton and Crusha were each 2-for-4. Alyssa Webb finished with a RBI she attained earlier in the game.
Paris (6-7, 2-2 L&C) created havoc on the bases by swiping nine bases. Mitten, Ashenfelter and Sophia Crusha each had two stolen bases.
In the circle, Sutton started the game with four innings of five strikeouts, four hits, four walks and two earned runs and Kennedy Ashenfelter added three innings of four hits, three strikeouts, one earned run and one walk.
McKinney, Billings compete in Harrisburg Scramble for Paris girls
Riley McKinney and Miranda Billings compete Tuesday against many duos.
In the Harrisburg Scramble, the Paris pair finished with a 104. The winning pair was Avery Pemberton and Kennady George from Hallsville after they shot a 77, and Harrisburg took the team title with a 160.
On the day after at the Salisbury Invitational, Maura Crusha shot a 118 and Gracie Henry had a 129. Hallsville won with a 383 while Monroe City’s Reagan Cheek had the best individual score of 95.
