Mexico (6-4) eliminated North Central Missouri Conference foe Kirksville (4-6) the second straight year with an overtime victory, beating the Tigers 28-21 in the Class 4 District 5 tournament despite trailing 21-7 at halftime on Halloween at Hawthorne Heights.

Mexico's offense finished with 287 yards compared to Kirksville's 219 yards. Charlie Fisher threw for 94 yards on 9-for-18 passing and had a game-tying 14-yard touchdown pass to Kaden Benne (five catches for 71 yards) on the same drive Fisher connected with Benne for 39 yards on a play. Fisher ran for the game-winning touchdown in overtime. Brysen Hammers ran for 94 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries, and Korbyn Dorsey ran for 42 yards and one touchdown on 12 carries.

The band was adorned in various costumes to celebrate the spooky occasion.
