Mexico goes into boys soccer districts Saturday as a winner.
The Bulldogs beat Canton 4-1 on Monday night at Chris Hotop Field right after they recognized their six seniors: Brandon Ballard, Jesus Garcia, Brixton Goerne, William Hernandez-Sampayo, Alex Rodriguez and Grant Walker. Garcia scored both of his goals in the first half, and Mexico (6-14) added two more by Alex Matuz and Walker, who played the field in the second half after spending time at his usual post in the net. Mexico outshot Canton (2-14-2) 36-7 in an offensive flurry.
Mexico has the No. 6 seed in the Class 2 District 4 tournament in Moberly and will play No. 3 Southern Boone (15-6) at noon on Saturday. The Bulldogs lost to Southern Boone 5-0 earlier this season.
