Mexico volleyball's seniors got involved early in Tuesday's win.
The Lady Bulldogs (5-18) swept Brookfield 25-6, 25-16, 25-14 on their final match on Gary Filbert Court in Mexico to remain undefeated against Brookfield (5-14). Before the match, Charley Jackson, Camy Blackburn and Layla Belcher were acknowledged on Senior Night after their contributions the past four years.
According to unofficial numbers, Jackson led with six kills and had four aces, Blackburn had three kills and two aces and Belcher finished with three kills.
"Because it was Senior Night, we wanted to give them as much play time as we possibly could," head coach Tami Sells said. "We switched up a tiny bit like Charley played the whole rotation, and Layla also played the whole rotation today."
Gwen Walker finished with three kills and led with five aces, Anna Isgrig had three kills, and Savannah Murray had three kills and four aces.
"The biggest thing is they came in tonight having fun," Sells said. "Just play the game."
Mexico plays at Marshall (3-19-1), who the Lady Bulldogs defeated in five sets earlier this season, at 7 p.m. Thursday. After that, they begin the Class 3 District 6 tournament in Fulton as No. 5 seed to face No. 5 seed Bowling Green (7-11-3) at 5 p.m. Oct. 20. The Lady Bulldogs lost in five sets to Bowling Green at home in September.
"It was a pretty close match, so I'm feeling pretty optimistic," Sells said. "That was earlier on in the season, and we haven't really built up our stamina yet and that mindset of moving forward. I think that will help us now that we've had some success and some team chemistry."
