Everything seemed to slot into place Tuesday for Bob Curtis to pick up his 400th career win as a head coach, and it happened.
The Community R-6 girls beat Central Activities Conference foe Sturgeon 45-26 prior to Curtis being celebrated on home court. Curtis is a Sturgeon alum, and his daughter, senior Jocelyn Curtis, scored 21 points to lead the Lady Trojans (6-2, 3-0 CAC) in the victory. Jocelyn Curtis also had seven rebounds and went 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Peyton Beamer finished with 13 points, six assists and four steals, and Kat Meyer had eight points and seven rebounds in Community's fourth game holding an opponent to under 30 points. Brooke Smith led Sturgeon (3-3, 1-1 CAC) with 12 points and six rebounds.
Bob Curtis has been at Community since 2005-06 and has led the Lady Trojans to nine district titles, six conference titles and two Final Fours. Past and present players recognized him at a postgame ceremony and reception during the varsity boys game.
Community plays at Van-Far (2-3) at 6 p.m. Friday in its final game before Christmas break.
