Presser Pipes Community Choir held their annual Christmas concert and canned food drive Thursday, Dec. 19. This year’s theme was “The Wonder of Christmas.”
This musical showcase has been a holiday tradition in Mexico since 2018.The choir practices every Thursday in the music room at Presser, which is how they got their name.
For a while, the group was made up of mostly retired members of our community but any adult is free to join and as numbers continue to grow, so does the diversity.
“They’ve been going strong for a while now,” says Tiger Rotenburger. “They had 30 members, when I started, now they have 45 to 50.”
Those who came with two cans of food to contribute to the canned food drive received discounted tickets at half-price.
Historically, the canned food drive aspect of the Presser Pipes Concert has been wildly successful and this year seems to be no exception.
“We always have a great turnout but it gets bigger every year,” says Rotenburger. “I have a big laundry cart for canned goods and it’s usually filled up.”
There were a little over 300 people in attendance and about 75% bought canned goods with them. All of the canned goods get donated to The Laura Miller George Help Center here in Mexico.
