The Mexico girls golf program has some hard hitters this season.
Head coach Layne Meyers said the three returning – juniors Alexis Henderson and Reagan Craig and sophomore Ella Connell – each bring strong shots from many yards out, but their games need more refinement.
“All three girls have really improved their swing and added distance to their ball,” Meyers said. “I think we will be really strong in our long game. Alexis, Reagan and Ella hit really well with their driver and irons. We just have to keep putting in work on the practice green, where their golf game will matter the most. In golf, short game, or putting, is always the hardest but the most important part.”
The Lady Bulldogs sent Kennedi Rowe to the state tournament last season during her senior year. Meyers said the three she has this season have improved their scores from a year ago.
“Our main goals are to consistently shoot in the 40's, and I expect them to improve in their short game,” Meyers said. “Putting and chipping will be a huge part of most practices this season.”
Mexico plays its first match on Aug. 28 against Helias Catholic in Jefferson City before its home opener the next day starting at 4 p.m. at Arthur Hills.
