Less than a week remains before property tax payments are due to avoid any late penalties.
Every year in November, the collector’s office mails out bills for personal property tax. Taxes not paid in full or postmarked by Dec. 31 can accrue late penalties as high as 27% and failure to receive a tax bill will not relieve a taxpayer’s obligation.
Payments can be made by cash, card, check or money order in person at the Audrain County Collector’s office at 101 N. Jefferson St. Room 103 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Thursday. The collector’s office also accepts payments via check or money order made or postmarked by Dec. 31. Checks or money orders can also be dropped off in the silver drop-off box on the east side of the building. The drop box is checked frequently and is available outside of regular business hours.
There is also a satellite office available in Vandalia at 200 N. Main St. that accepts checks only.
An option for online bill pay is available at the collector’s office at www.audraincounty.org/collector-of-revenue.
Personal property tax statements are based on any vehicle or residence owned on Jan. 1, 2024. If residents sold their vehicle, did not receive a bill, or have any questions, they should contact the Audrain County Collector of Revenue Amy LeCount at 573-473-5824 or by email at alecount@audraincounty.org.
Taxpayers should inspect their statement and confirm that all vehicles, descriptions and addresses are correct.
The collector’s office is closed today, Dec. 25 in observance of Christmas and will resume regular hours Dec. 26.
