Record holders among Centralia volleyball all-district players

Centralia volleyball will be going for a program first district title in the future but was happy to have several brilliant players the last several years.

Among the core that led the Lady Panthers to three straight district championship matches, including this year against Fulton in an 18-7 campaign, is seniors Morgan Ross, Lexi Cook and Katie Carrico. Ross was named to the first team and Cook and Carrico were on the second team along with sophomore Madilynn Hunter and freshman Ryenn Gordon.

Ross is a towering presence on the basketball court and wasn’t sure she would be playing volleyball this season after tearing her ACL during basketball season last winter. She was as good as ever, ranking ninth in Class 3 for blocks at 100 after posting seven blocks in each of Centralia’s district matches. For her career, Ross holds four program records: kills in a season at 220, kills in a career at 556, blocks in a season at 115 and blocks in a career at 361.

Cook went down with injury to end her season in the district semifinals against Boonville but already had sizable numbers to make a great impact on the program. She was the team’s primary setter as she went far beyond what she was asked by setting the match assists record at 38, season assists record at 456 and career assists record at 916.

Carrico is a record holder as well despite playing only three years of varsity, namely her 873 career digs. She also has the match digs record at 44, which Carrico did twice during her junior season, and the season digs record at 415.

As for the future of the Lady Panthers, Hunter was third on the team with 138 kills, first with 51 service aces and second with 223 digs. She had three double-digit kill matches and two double-doubles when she added in double-digit digs with her kills.

Gordon had the second-most kills at 173, the fifth most aces at 30 and the sixth-most digs at 91. She had seven matches with double-digit kills, including three straight to end her season.
