The Mexico Relay For Life may be changing spots this coming year.
Chad Shoemaker, director of Mexico Parks and Recreation, told Park Board members last week that Relay For Life has requested to use Hardin Park for the 2024 event that happens in September.
In the past the event has had several different homes including most recently on the Mexico Square. The event has also been hosted by the Middle and High Schools, Fairgrounds Park and one year at the 4H Center.
“It’s a good special event,” Shoemaker said. “It gets a lot of people out walking and doing things to grow the community. We’re happy to serve that.”
Some brought up concerns about parking but Shoemaker said they’ve had large events at the park before without issues.
“We’ve got some things to figure out but we’ve had crowds of hundreds,” Shoemaker said.
