The year 2024 is expected to be a big one for elections and Audrain County Clerk Lisa Smith is looking for help.
Smith gave an update on courthouse happenings at the annual Audrain County Missouri Farm Bureau dinner on Friday, Jan. 26, and said she’s looking for help in conducting the three big elections the county will have this year starting in April with municipal and school board elections. In August voters will narrow down choices by party for the big election in November.
“This year we’re very, very, busy,” Smith said.
Smith said that many of her election workers are reaching retirement age so some new younger workers are needed. Smith said although the days can be long for election workers in Audrain County the job comes with a lot less stress than some other places. Smith said she’s read the horror stories of election workers being harassed and intimidated but that’s not something election judges in Audrain County have to worry about.
“Our county’s voters are not like that at all,” Smith said. “You guys have conducted yourselves very well and have been kind to me and my election judges.”
If anyone is interested in becoming an election judge contact Smith’s office at the Audrain County Courthouse.
