Two fires involving smoking materials were extinguished in Mexico Saturday by the Mexico Public Safety Department.
No injuries were reported in either fire, according to a news release issued by MPSD.
The first fire occured at approximately 8:46 a.m., the release stated. MPSD responded to a home in the 800 block of Trinity where responding personnel found a chair in the living room that had caught fire. The residents partially extinguished the fire, but the chair was still burning under the cushions.
The apparent cause of the fire was a resident accidentally dropping smoking material on the chair, the release stated.
The fire was fully extinguished, and no further damage to the home was reported.
Hours later, at approximately 2:05 p.m., MPSD responded to a grass fire in the 1800 block of East Liberty.
According to the release, responding personnel found a small area of grass burning and extinguished it. There was no damage to any additional property.
The fire was apparently caused by the careless disposal of smoking material, the release stated.
