Community R-6 scores season-high in 23-3 win at Marion County

Community had already scored at least 20 runs twice before this season.

The Class 1 No. 8 Lady Trojans hadn’t scored as much as 23 before their 23-3 win at Marion County (5-11) on Thursday. They finished with 18 hits, scoring eight runs each in the third and fourth innings.

Jocelyn Curtis led the offense by going 3-for-4 with five RBI and a double and pitched four innings with six strikeouts, six hits and three earned runs. Braelyn Kuda followed by going 3-for-3 with two RBI, Myla Carroll went 2-for-4 with two RBI, Amy McCurdy finished 3-for-3 with four runs and two doubles, and Chloe Johnson and Rylee Rafferty each had two RBI.

Community (19-10) played Class 2 No. 9 Elsberry (21-8) on Tuesday before hosting the Class 1 District 4 tournament as the No. 2 seed. The Lady Trojans face No. 7 seed Knox County (3-14) at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

North Callaway ties record in 3-1 loss at Bowling Green

North Callaway’s offense didn’t muster much on Thursday in Bowling Green.

The Ladybirds lost their regular season finale 3-1 to their Eastern Missouri Conference foes but still tied a school record. Liv Knoepflein stole the team’s 36th straight base, tying the streak set during last season. 

Knoepflein and Kymorie Myers had the two hits for North Callaway (20-12, 7-3 EMO) against Sydney Charlton, who struck out 12 batters for Bowling Green (11-11, 7-3 EMO). Megan Schmidt countered by going seven innings with nine strikeouts and six hits.

North Callaway is the No. 5 seed in the Class 3 District 4 tournament and faces No. 4 seed Fulton (17-8) at 7 p.m. today at Southern Boone.

Centralia finishes perfect CCC title run, defeats Palmyra 10-0

Centralia was perfect yet again in the Clarence Cannon Conference.

The Class 3 No. 1 Lady Panthers finished 6-0 after defeating Palmyra (3-23, 1-5 CCC)10-0 on Thursday night at home, securing their second straight perfect conference record as well as second straight conference title. Centralia (23-3) finished with 11 hits in another dominant offensive performance that capped its conference scoring margin at 60-4.

Cora King led the offense by going 2-for-3 with two RBI, a home run and a double; Ealynne Bostick went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double; Jaylynn Brown finished 2-for-3 with a RBI and a double and also pitched five innings with 15 strikeouts, one hit and one walk; Bailey Schuering had two RBI; and Tilly Fox went 2-for-3 with three runs and a RBI.

The Lady Panthers defeated Bowling Green 1-0 in their regular season finale on Monday night to improve their record to 24-3. Jaylynn Brown struck out 17 and allowed two hits and two walks in  seven innings to counter Bowling Green’s Sydney Charlton — 11 strikeouts and one earned run on three hits and one walk in seven innings. King had a pop fly RBI single in the first inning.

Centralia is the No. 1 seed in the Class 3 District 4 tournament and faces No. 8 Boonville (9-15) at 5 p.m. today at Southern Boone.

Paris wraps up regular season with 10-1 at Sturgeon

Paris finished its best softball regular season in recent memory on Thursday.

The Lady Coyotes won 10-1 at Sturgeon in the regular season finale to finish with a 19-6 record for the program’s most wins in at least 16 years. Paris finished the regular season with a Class 1 No. 9 state ranking and earned the No. 1 seed in the Class 1 District 4 tournament at Community R-6.

The bats for Paris were hot against Sturgeon (3-17) as the Lady Coyotes finished with 15 hits, including six extra-base hits. Sophia Crusha led by going 3-for-4 with two RBI, Kennedy Ashenfelter finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Reese Sutton went 2-for-4 with one RBI, a triple and a double. Ava Crain pitched seven innings with 11 strikeouts, five hits and one earned run and was 2-for-4 with a double at the plate.

As the top seed, Paris will receive a bye and will face the winner of No. 8 Marion County and No. 9 Wellsville-Middletown at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Van-Far shut out 8-0 by Clopton in regular season finale

Van-Far’s offense had a quiet day to end the regular season on Thursday.

The Lady Indians finished with three hits but lost 8-0 to Eastern Missouri Conference foe Clopton after committing seven errors and allowing seven unearned runs. Dalana Gay was only charged with one earned run in seven innings and also had 11 strikeouts, six hits and six walks.

Elliott Utterback had a double, but Ashlyn Noah struck out 14 Lady Indians for Clopton (12-10, 4-6 EMO).

Van-Far (4-18, 1-9 EMO) is the No. 4 seed in the Class 2 District 2 tournament and will face No. 5 seed Valley Park (6-10-1) at 5 p.m. Thursday at Montgomery County.
