Some girls secured their medals on Day 1.
During the Class 1 girls MSHSAA State Championships on Wednesday at Mizzou Arena in Columbia, Mexico's Alexus Johns pinned both of her opponents at 235 pounds to advance to tomorrow's semifinals. Centralia's Ava Ward and Jayci Shelton won both of their matches to advance to the semifinals tomorrow at 135 and 170, respectively. Ward won by 17-0 technical fall and then first-period pinfall while Shelton pinned both of her opponents in the first minute.
Mexico's Abby Bowen was pinned and then pinned Raytown South's Alexis Love and was finally pinned in second-round wrestlebacks to be eliminated. Centralia's Avery Adams was pinned twice to be eliminated. North Callaway's Brooke Giboney and Elka Endres were each pinned twice to be eliminated.
