The community showcased its local tax-supported nonprofit organizations at the 4-H center on Nov. 14 during State of the Community. The event, hosted by the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce with the support of the Mexico Jaycees and the Audrain Inclusive Health Collaborative, had representatives from 30 organizations. State of the Community began in 2010 as an annual event, but after five years, Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Dana Keller said it started to get repetitive, so it was revived as a bi-anual event on odd years. The resurgence of the State of the Community served as an opportunity for residents to hear from local leaders and learn about resources in Audrain County. It also offered networking opportunities among the organizations in attendance. Guest speakers included the Mexico Jaycees, Mexico School District Superintendent Troy Lentz, Audrain County Commission and Boone Health CEO Brady Dubois.
