A Sullivan man died in a head-on collision at Basinger Corner Wednesday.
The 51-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, a 43-year-old Vandalia woman, sustained serious injuries, according to the crash report issued by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
According to the report, the crash occurred at 6:15 a.m. on Highway 54, two miles north of Laddonia. The Sullivan man was driving north in a 2024 Kia Telluride when he crossed the center of the road and began traveling in the wrong direction in the roundabout. He struck the Vandalia woman, who was driving south in a 2017 Ford Escape, head-on.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:03 a.m., and the woman was transported by Van-Far Ambulance to Hannibal Regional Hospital with serious injuries. Both vehicles were totaled.
This is Troop F's second fatality traffic crash for October and 51st for the year.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol no longer releases the names of people involved in crashes.
