The Salty Heifers Co. opens new storefront in Mexico

Posted

The Salty Heifers Co. celebrated the grand opening of their new storefront at 118 W. Jackson St. recently with a ribbon cutting ceremony and store-wide sale.

The Salty Heifers, owned by Barb Jones, Jacie Jones and Lindsy Swaim, is a family owned and operated store offering custom t-shirts, totes, infant clothing, pens, bookmarks.

“We are all equal partners in this adventure.” says Barb

The Salty Heifers has been in business for about a year, and what started as a home business quickly grew. As a result, they began scouting storefronts all over mid-missouri and wound up here in Mexico by chance.

“We couldn’t find anything close to Holts Summit, Fulton, Jefferson City, and Lindsy actually found this place and it was perfect.” says Barb

Barb Jones, self proclaimed, “mom of the herd” specializes in embroidery and all things sewing sold at the Salty Heifers. Her daughter Jacie is an operating room nurse at Saint Mary’s hospital whose love for crafting has helped her in designing and managing the Salty Heifers website as well as customizing pens and “badge buddies” for her fellow nurses.

Swaim, Barb’s niece, is a paraprofessional at Community R-6 who specializes in custom designs and earrings.

“The three of us are very close.” says Barb “We each kind of have different talents.”

While the Salty Heifers knew they wanted to start a business for a while, they needed a unique idea. The inspiration for their business finally came after noticing how many items they wish they could change the color of or have in a different size.

That’s why it’s all about variety and customization at the Salty Heifers.

“If it can be flat and get hot, we can put a picture on it.” says Barb.

Part of setting the Salty Heifers apart from the rest is their dedication to their community. One fundraising program they offer is known as Chari-TEES.

Groups such as churches, schools, dance studios and other organizations have the opportunity to design four shirts which will then be listed on the Salty Heifers website.

“For every shirt that they sell out of those four shirts, they get $5 back to their organization.” says Barb.

Their hope is to, one day, open the space to birthday parties and private events.

Salty Heifers is open Monday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
