Three members of Missouri Military Academy’s Class of 2026 have earned competitive three-year Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps scholarships, supporting their college education and preparing them for future service as commissioned military officers.
Cadets River Punab-Mitchell, Deonte Kerns and Christopher Song received the scholarships ahead of MMA’s commencement ceremony on May 16. Collectively, the 49 cadets in the Class of 2026 have been offered more than $10.76 million in college scholarships.
Army ROTC scholarships provide financial support for tuition and fees. Scholarship recipients complete military leadership training while in college and commit to serving as commissioned officers after graduation.
Cadet River Punab-Mitchell, of Hollister, Missouri, has attended Missouri Military Academy for five years and served as cadet battalion commander during his senior year. In that role, he led the Corps of Cadets and demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership and service.
At MMA, Punab-Mitchell was a member of Delta Phi, the Academy’s academic honor society, and the National Honor Society. He also competed in swimming and track.
He plans to attend Liberty University, where he will major in history. Along with his Army ROTC scholarship, he received the Liberty Academic Scholarship, bringing his total scholarship awards to $102,600.
Punab-Mitchell is the son of Lindsay Hilsinger and Jaymie Mitchell.
Cadet Deonte Kerns, of Lincoln, Nebraska, has attended Missouri Military Academy for four and a half years. During his time at MMA, he participated in Raiders, wrestling and track and was a member of Delta Phi and the National Honor Society.
Kerns plans to attend Norwich University, the nation’s oldest private military college, where he will study business. His combined scholarship awards, including his Army ROTC scholarship, total $415,415.
He is the son of Tory and Will Kerns.
Cadet Christopher Song, of Southlake, Texas, has attended Missouri Military Academy for two years and served as Band Company executive officer. He participated in cross country, Raiders and track and was a member of Delta Phi.
Song plans to attend Purdue University, where he will major in aerospace engineering. His three-year Army ROTC scholarship is valued at $80,008.
He is the son of Larry and Soojin Risen.
