Thunderbirds win three duals on Senior Night

Posted

The North Callaway Thunderbirds and their two seniors had a good final showing on their home mats. North Callaway defeated all three schools involved in its quad meet on Tuesday, winning 72-5 against Mack's Creek, 40-33 against Mexico and 63-16 against California.

"In our past duals, we haven't had a whole lot of focus," head coach Ronnie Kimbley said. "Fulton (Dec. 7) was our second dual of the year, and we didn't dual for quite a while because it was nothing but tournaments. We were here against Tolton and then last week against Macon, we just didn't have a whole lot of focus so that was a lot of buildup going into tonight."

Seniors Lane Kimbley, who has 13 years of wrestling experience and has won over 170 matches for the Thunderbirds, and Tristan Young, who has wrestled three years, led the way with multiple victories to each of their credit. Wyatt Haden, Casper Safranski and Collin Moore were some that also won on the mat.

"Tristan coming in, one of our founding kids, Carson Safranski, recruited him from cross country to wrestle his sophomore. For him to take that and be voted captain his senior year, that was something special. He drills hard and yet he also teaches at the same time. Lane is just something special because of the work he puts in studying, the drive he's got, and the passion alone for wrestling for this school is just awesome."

For the girls, Brooke Giboney, Addison Fansler and Abigail Schmidt each wrestled and lost one match.
