TRACK ROUNDUP: Shivers, Mexico finish at top at Thunderbird Early Invite

Anthony Shivers was all over the top of the podium on Tuesday night.

The Mexico senior earned four first-place medals, involving the boys 100-meter dash and three relay events at the Thunderbird Early Invite. Mexico collected 17 third-place finishes at the meet hosted by North Callaway in Kingdom City.

Besides Shivers, Tyler Grimes also had a big night at the top as he teamed with Shivers in the 4x100-meter relay with Morgan Grubb and Alex Rowan and the 4x400 with Grubb and Charlie Fisher. As an individual, Grimes won the 800-meter run. 

Shivers finished first in the 4x200-meter relay with Rowan, Jajuan Morisette and Taye Potter.

Earning second place for the Mexico boys was Grubb in the pole vault, Rowan in the 200-meter dash, Thomas Peuster in the 3,200-meter run, and the 4x800-meter relay team of Peuster, Grimes, Davontae Frame, and Guy Fairchild. A couple of the girls relay teams finished second including the 4x800 team of Maggie Ramsey, Emma Seibert, Sidney Turlington and Ella Raines and the 4x400 team of Turlington, Raines, Alexis Smythe and Alexandra Terry.

Thomas and Andrew Peuster finished third in the boys 1600- and 3,200-meter runs, respectively while, on the girls side, Smythe in the 200-meter dash, Raines in the 400, Ramsey in the 1,600 and Messiah Simpson in the high jump each were third.

Centralia dominates podium at North Callaway meet

Centralia had an athlete on the podium in just about every event.

On Tuesday at the Thunderbird Early Invite at North Callaway in Kingdom City, Centralia won 14 events and finished in the top-three 37 times. Jozelynn Bostick, Shelby Lewis, Harper Sontheimer, Autumn Hawkins, Cayden Dunn and JR Lesher won multiple events.

For the girls, Bostick swept the distance races by winning the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs and was part of the winning 4x800 relay team with Kenedee Moss, Rebecca Erisman and Annie Robinson.

Lewis won the 200- and 400-meter dashes and teamed on two winning relay teams. She ran with Sontheimer, Hawkins, and Kaelyn Walters on the 4x200 team and with Sontheimer, Robinson and Olivia Adams on the 4x400 team.

Sontheimer won the 300-meter hurdles, Hawkins was first in the long jump and Ellie Berendzen had the top mark in the discus.

Finishing first a few times for the boys were Dunn in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles and Lesher in the 3,200-meter run and as part of the 4x800-meter relay team with Rohan Holiman, Dryst Bostick and Landon Moss. Payton Mabrey won first in the shot put.

Taking second-place honors on the girls side were Walters in the 100-meter dash, Hawkins in the 200, Adams in the 400, Rylee Palmer in the 3,200-meter run, Erisman in the long jump, Kaylie Ensor in the pole vault and Harper Forshee in the javelin. For the boys, taking second were Holiman in the 800, Lesher in the 1,600, Jameson Cooper in the discus, Evan Brumback in the javelin, and the 4x200 relay team.

Among the girls to finish third were Hawkins in the 100, Walters for a Centralia sweep in the long jump, Walters in the triple jump, Mea Auck in the pole vault, Robinson in the javelin and Cora King in the shot put. The boys who finished third were Jacob Beard in the pole vault, Tilmon Sontheimer in the discus and the 4x100 relay team.

Community’s DiSalvo runner-up in hurdles at North Callaway

Community R-6’s Victoria DiSalvo has always been in the running in the hurdles events so far this season.

DiSalvo finished second in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles on Tuesday at Thunderbird Early Invite at North Callaway in Kingdom City.

Besides her, the team’s next highest finish was by Brooklynn Glasgow in the shot put as she ended up in sixth.

Craighead wins javelin at North Callaway home meet

Isiah Craighead made sure to bring some top hardware to the home team.

Craighead won the boys javelin on Tuesday in the Thunderbird Early Invite at North Callaway in Kingdom City. As a team, North Callaway finished in the top three 12 times.

Earning second place for the boys was Gavin Rasmussen in the long jump and second place on the girls side included Jalyn Leible in the triple jump, Kymorie Myers in the discus, and Ellie Bedsworth in the shot put.

Finishing third for the boys were Caleb Rohrbach in the shot put, Brendan Reinhard in the high jump, and the 4x400- and 4x800-meter relay teams. The girls side had third-place finishes from Lia Bondurant in the high jump, Bedsworth in the discus, and the 4x100-meter relay team.

Gibson jumps to pair of top-threes for Van-Far

Gage Gibson’s athleticism was there on Tuesday night.

The Van-Far junior finished second in the 300-meter hurdles and third in the long jump on Tuesday at the Thunderbird Early Invite at North Callaway in Kingdom City.

The other Van-Far top-three finish came from Brooklyn Forman on the girls side as she took third in the 800-meter run. Coming close in fourth were Mara Jensen in the shot put and the 4x800-meter relay team.

Powell wins pair of races for MMA at South Shelby

Bryson Powell continued his all-state cross country season into track and field this season.

On Monday, Powell won the 800- and 1,600-meter runs to lead Missouri Military Academy at the South Shelby Open.

Ryan Miles finished behind Powell in the 1,600 with a second-place finish, and the 4x100-meter relay team of Gadis Burgett, Ky-mani Erskine, Colten Kahle and Gerardo Quiroga was the runner-up in its event.

Paris distance runners victorious at South Shelby, Knox County

Paris had meets on back-to-back days this week.

On Monday, Alexandria Tullius won the 3,200-meter run at the South Shelby Open and then Mairyn Kinnaman won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs on Tuesday at the Knox County Invitational. Mason Edwards and Drew Williams also won events on Tuesday in the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run, respectively.

At South Shelby, Tullius finished third in the 1,600-meter run, and Landen Chapman was the runner-up in the 3,200-meter run and part of the second-place 4x800-meter relay team on the boys side with Williams, Brayden DeOrnellas, and Clayton Duncan. 

At Knox County, the girls scored some runner-up finishes in the 4x800-meter relay with Kinnaman, Tullius, Sophia Crusha and Emma Ashenfelter, the 3,200 with Tullius, and the 100- and 300-meter hurdles with Crusha. The boys 4x400 (Drew Williams, Edwards, Duncan and Alex Williams) and 4x800 (Duncan, DeOrnellas, Drew Williams and Chapman) teams each finished second.

Finishing third on Tuesday were Ashenfelter in the 800, and the boys 4x100 (Owen Totten, Payden Crain, Gabe Goff and Owen Buie) and 4x200 (Edwards, Crain, Alex Williams and Evan Smothers) relay teams.
