Posted

Community R-6 couldn't quite start the baseball season with a win on Friday.

After falling behind 5-1 to district opponent New Haven at home, the Trojans scored three runs in the sixth inning but not any more to lose 5-4. Community couldn't overcome four errors and 10 strikeouts against New Haven pitcher Trevor Hinten, who also had two earned runs allowed on nine hits. Lane Carter drove in Community's first run of the season with a RBI triple in the third inning and then Kyler Swaim, Nik Crider (2-for-3) and Houston Hogan (first spring varsity start) each had RBI hits in the sixth. Cooper Rohan struck out seven and allowed three earned runs on eight hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings, and Drake Welch added three strikeouts and one walk in 1 1/3 innings along with going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Community plays at another district foe Wellsville-Middletown at 5 p.m. Monday.
