Trojans hang on to 9-7 win at home vs Marion County

Posted

Thursday's victory certainly wasn't a certainty for Commuhnity R-6.

The Trojans defeated Marion County 9-7 after making the Mustangs strand the bases loaded in the seventh inning. Community was ahead 6-1 only for it to become 6-4 and then added on for a 9-4 lead prior to a final Marion County rally.

Marion County outhit Community 11-7, but the Trojans (2-1) did better at the plate than the three hits Tuesday in a 5-4 loss at Clopton. Mason Carroll, along with four earned runs allowed on nine hits in six innings pitched with 12 strikeouts, picked up his first two hits of the season. They were each big ones in the team's third game of the year, driving in two runs with a double in the third inning and then hitting the game-winning two-RBI home run in the sixth.

Eli Johnson went 2-for-4 and picked up a RBI single in the three-run sixth that added critical insurance for Community. Cooper Rohan had a RBI via a bunt, and Lane Carter stole three bases along with scoring two runs.

Seven batters each had a RBI for Marion County (2-1).

Community hosts Paris with Faith Walk at 5 p.m. Monday.
